The inspiration behind the tours.

From Trinity Otero: The Parramore Kids Zone (PZK) has a "Girls Night Out" event once a month where they learn or experience a life skill. I asked Jessica, their leader, if she thought I could get some friends in the industry together to talk to the girls. We would speak about careers in creative fields like graphic and web design, video, and photography.

That night we had more women show up with prepared presentations than we had kids to present to. They inspired me to think about how I could use their willingness to help fight against the imbalance of women in leadership roles in the world of design.

When I asked if they wanted to do it again, I received a resounding, “yes.” They were equally touched by the PKZ girls.

I want to ensure we find a diverse group of not only race, but industry and age to have the best variety of presenters for future women leaders.

Thank you

Stephanie Darden Bennett, president of PRISMATIC, for hosting our first presentation that was the catalyst for this program. She not only opened her doors, she spoke about her own story that has been inspiring local Orlando woman leaders for years.

Jessica Darden, Outreach & Events Coordinator of the Parramore Kidz Zone (PKZ), has worked tirelessly to provide educational and exciting programming for the youth of Parramore. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s mission with the PKZ program is to level the playing field for Parramore’s children, equipping them to become successful, healthy, well-educated adults. If you are interested in hosting the PKZ or finding out more about the program, please email jessica.darden@cityoforlando.net.
